Hitachinaka (ひたちなか市 Hitachinaka-shi) is a city located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.
As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 155,354 and a population density of 1,570 persons per km². The total area is 99.04 km2 (38 sq mi).
The modern city of Hitachinaka was established on November 1, 1994, after the cities of Katsuta andNakaminato were merged.
It is a hiragana city, the place name is written with the hiragana syllabary, and not the more traditionalkanji.
